CAS Calendar for the Year 2012

After 5 hours of Council Meeting on last Tuesday, CAS is pleased to announce that we will get active again in the chess scene despite lacking in manpower and funding for all activities that will be organised from this year onwards.

We hope the chess community can lend a big support in our events. All dates are confirmed. The infosheet for the 39th Selangor Open can be obtained from here.

Updated 24th March 2012: The Selangor Juniors for U12 and U16 originally on 17th June will be rescheduled to another suitable date since there is another tournament for Juniors that will take place in KL. The event was advertised to public much earlier, however, CAS Council is unaware of that development. CAS always committed in honouring the policy of "No clash on tournament dates based on whoever announce event first".

38th Selangor Open 2011

This FIDE-rated event (also a nationally rated event) will be organised from 28th Apr to 2nd May 2011 at DATCC, 4th floor, Wilayah Complex, KL. The total prize fund for this event is RM 7,500 with the 38th Selangor Open Champion to receive RM 2,500 in cash.

Registration fee:
1. CAS Members with FIDE rating >> RM 70;
2. CAS Members without FIDE rating >> RM 80;
3. Others with FIDE rating >> RM 90;
4. Others without FIDE rating >> RM 100;
5. Schools/Institutions of Higher Learning that send at least 4 players will receive 20% discount.

37th Selangor Open: Pre-registration List

All participants will be given free bottles of mineral water during the tournament. One of the committee member just carry back 120 liters of water from one of the hypermarkets in town. The number of bottles to be made available for consumption will depends on the pre-registration list.

Based on historical data, 20 to 25% of the the pre-registered names will not turn-up on tournament day. So, CAS will accept the pre-registration list up to 100pax. [PRE-REGISTRATION CLOSED OFFICIALLY]

CAS Major Tournaments in 2010

CAS will start the year with two of the Association's mainstay tournaments as follows:

1. 37th Selangor Open 2010 (FIDE rated/Nat. rated) on 29th April to 2nd May 2010

2. 12th CAS -Octagon 2nd Quarter Allegro Championship (Nat. rated) to be held on the 20th June 2010

Both tournaments have each earned a major place amongst Malaysian chess tournaments respectively due invariably to the concerted efforts of the the CAS Committee members over the years and support of the sponsors, chess communities and most importantly the chess players.

Further details will be furnished, along with a complete calendar of CAS chess events for this year.

Chess competition and activities

CAS plans to hold the final series for the year - the 10th CAS-Octagon Fourth Quarter Allegro on 7th Dec 2008. This is on the eve of Hari Raya Haji and is the only avalaible date to hold the tournament by CAS. So please keep the date open

The local chess scene is experiencing a burst of activities of late but there are concurrently reports of poor managent in the running of chess tournaments and issues of legitimacy being raised. Chess organisers will need to seek the approval or endorsement of MCF as the sole authority of international chess in the country under the provisions of the Sports Development Act 1997. For activities in Selangor CAS is given the delegated power to consider and approve the holding of any such tournament, and likewise the activities in other States through the respective State associations or such other MCF affiliates/representatives.
