Malaysian Chess Championship 2023: Selangor Representatives

FM Lim Zhuo Ren (elo 2294) will spearhead Selangor Team as he earned a direct entry into the event as past edition Champion. Meanwhile, CAS will extend the Four Official Entries in the OPEN Category to

1. Anderson Ang (elo 2127), 

2. Mohd Saprin Sabri (elo 1996), 

3. Kaushal Khandhar (elo 1936), and 

4. Ismail Ahmad (elo 1876).

ENTRY FEE, ACCOMMODATION, MEAL and TRAVELING ARRANGEMENTS
The selected players will be responsible for their own Entry fee, Accommodation, Meals and Traveling Expenses. The selected players will have to bank in the entry fees into MCF bank account by 22nd April 2023 (SATURDAY) and email the slip to mcfsecretariat@malaysiachess.org and selangorchess@gmail.com.

47th Selangor Open (26/5 - 31/5): Prospectus

CAS will be organizing the Oldest Chess Tournament in the country from 26th May to 31st May. This year we will be celebrating 47th edition of our event that has a very colorful history since its first inception in 1974. This event will be divided into 2 Categories i.e. an Open Section and a Challenger Section.


This 9-round Open Section with the time control 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment from move 1 that comprises of RM 13,750/= cash prize for the Top 20 winners (Champion RM 4,000), plus another RM 3,000/= cash prize awaiting 15 winners in Special Prizes, and 12 Medals for the Best Schools / IPT in Malaysia. This Open section is open to all.


Free entry shall be given to any WIM/WGM/IM/GM and past Selangor Open Champions who sign-up in the Open section. 


While, the Challenger Section with the same number of rounds and time control with RM 3,900/= cash prize for Top 10 winners, RM 1,000/= cash prize awaiting 9 top winners from FIDE Rating Ceiling categories and 3 best Ladies, and 12 Medals for Best Primary Schools in Malaysia.


This Challenger section is open to participant with FIDE Standard Elo below 1800 rating (May 2023 release) or no FIDE rating.


This event will be held at KL Gateway Mall. Any outstation participants who need accommodation at Cititel Hotel, please liaise with DAT Chess Centre (012-8480980) at special rate (One-night Superior room for 2 pax with breakfast @ RM220 nett). 


CAS has appointed DAT Chess Centre as Event Manager for this event. DAT Chess Centre will be handling the Registration and Payment processes. All payments shall be paid into DAT Chess Centre Maybank account: 5145-9822-0396.

Rebate shall be given to players who register with payment BY 1st May 2023 (Monday) in OPEN section for both Individual and School-going Children (4 and above from the same school), and while  School-going Children (4 and above from the same school) in the CHALLENGER section. Meanwhile,  OKU participants who take part in Challenger Section is entitled to 25% discount if register BY 1st May 2023.

Malaysian Chess Championship 2023 – 3rd To 7th May 2023 – Taiping, Perak

The Malaysian Chess Federation will be organizing the 2023 edition of the Malaysian Chess Championship from 3rd to 7th May 2023 at Flemington Hotel, Taiping, Perak.

State Representatives
The Malaysian Chess Federation will only accept entries submitted using the State Official Entry Forms that needs to be approved, endorsed, and signed by the President and/or the Secretary of the respective State Affiliate.

Each State is allowed to send 4 Official Entries for Open and 2 Official Entries for  Women Category (fulfilling minimum rating level).

The criteria for Official State Entries as follows:-
(i) CAS Qualification for OPEN CATEGORY: A minimum rating level of FIDE 1600
(ii) CAS Qualification FOR WOMEN CATEGORY : A minimum rating level of FIDE 1600

CAS will extend an open invitation to all Selangorians who wish to apply for the 4 Open and 2 Women slots. CAS will award these slots to the highest FIDE rating applications (based on FIDE Standard April 2023 release). Please email to selangorchess@gmail.com with (Name, H/p Number, FIDE ID, FIDE RTG, MCF ID and CATEGORY TYPE) by 9th April (Sunday) for selection purposes.

Applicant must have MCF ID. Please go to https://rating.malaysiachess.my/register.aspx to register for MCF ID. [TAKE NOTE: Applicant WITHOUT MCF ID will be rejected by CAS]

NATIONAL CHALLENGER CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2022 (Below 1600 And UNRATED)

CAS will award these slots to the highest FIDE rating applications (based on FIDE Standard May 2022 release). Please email to selangorchess@gmail.com with (Name, H/p Number) by 25th May (Wednesday) for selection purposes.

The selected candidates will have to bank in  the entry fees into HEROSIFU CHESS ACADEMY  bank account by 29th May 2022.

Malaysian Chess Championship from 8th to 12th June 2022

The Malaysian Chess Federation will be organizing the 2022 edition of the Malaysian Chess Championship from 8th to 12th June 2022 – which coincides with the mid-year school break, at Hotel Tenera, Bangi.

State Representatives
The Malaysian Chess Federation will only accept entries submitted using the State Official Entry Forms that needs to be approved, endorsed, and signed by the President and/or the Honorary Secretary of the respective State Affiliate.

Each State is allowed to send 4 Official Entries for Open and 2 Official Entries for  Women Category (fulfilling minimum rating level). 1 Open and 1 Women (who didn't fulfil the minimum rating level).

The criteria for Official State Entries as follows:-
Open Qualification : A minimum rating level of FIDE 1600
Women Qualification : A minimum rating level of FIDE 1400

CAS will extend an open invitation to all Selangorians who wish to apply for the 4 Open and 2 Women slots. CAS will award these slots to the highest FIDE rating applications (based on FIDE Standard May 2022 release). Please email to selangorchess@gmail.com with (Name, H/p Number, and Category Type) by 19th May (Thursday) for selection purposes.

For those who did not meet the FIDE Rating level set by MCF, CAS shall award the slots (1 Open and 1 Women) to the player who have outstanding tournament achievements (Jan 2020 to May 2022) especially FIDE standard rating events. Your FIDE Standard ratings shall be an important benchmark too. Please email to selangorchess@gmail.com with (Name, H/p Number, Category Type and List of tournament achievements since Jan 2020) by 19th May (Thursday) for selection purposes.

46th Selangor Open 2019 -Final Results

The Filipinos and top fide rated players made a 1-2 finish through IM Pascua Haridas and GM Laylo Darwin. Indonesian FM Andyka Pitra losing only to the two top players took the 3rd placing to break the Filipino domination. A commendable achievement was Selangor Junior player Amir Ghaazi Mohd Saprin who shot into 5th place just behind seasoned campaigner FM Dimakiling Oliver
Indonnesian player Roy Marpaung had a scare with a 6th round loss but held on to emerge Champion in the Challenger Category..Malaysian player See Hooi Chin took the 2nd spot and another local Lim Jing Hng was placed 3rd.

46th Selangor Open Chess Championship 2019 Incident

There was an incident during the 4th Round of the 46th Selangor Open Chess Championships 2019 being held in Kuala Lumpur.

A Malaysian player, Mohd Syukur Razali playing against Ian Udani from Philippines was caught with a mobile phone with the position on the board reflected on the mobile.
He was immediately disqualified and withdrawn from the event.
As per FIDE regulations, his results from the earlier rounds stands, as there was no proof he cheated in those games.
Further announcements will be made after the conclusion of the event.
FIDE Regulations:
In an individual Open tournament, the offender shall be excluded from the final ranking. Each of the offender’s games shall be considered a loss, but the score for the opponent shall remain unchanged. All games shall be reported as unplayed.
We will comply with all FIDE regulations concerning cheating. All the games he played on this tournament will not be included for rating purpose.
