24th Selangor Juniors Open Chess Tournament 2013 - Results ( Under-8, Under 12 and Under-16 )

The Chess Association of Selangor once again successfully concluded the age-group competitions for the past two weekends which ended today.  The series is now running in its 24th year. We have now included the Under-8 category this year attracting an encouraging 20 participants. As usual these competitions are open to all, attracting players from other states including a Singaporean. For the records the Under-12 Champion was deservedly won by a Pahang player Meor Airil Rahimi who only dropped a 1/2 point in the last round  against a 5-pointer to assure his top placing. The Under-8 winner Wong Zi Yue too was a clear winner with a full 7-pointer, In the Under-16 category Dilwen Ding pipped WFM Nur Najihah whom he beat in Round 5. He however dropped 1/2 point through a draw in Round 6 with 3rd placed Negeri Sembilan player Nithyalakshmi Sivanesan

Next Event: CAS First Quarter Allegro on 24th March 2013

After a tremendous support from parents of 105 children in today;s event, CAS is pleased to announce that our next event will take place on 24th March @ DAT Chess Connections, 4th floor, Wilayah Complex, KL.

This event will be divided into two categories namely Category 1 for players with National Rating 1400 and above, while Category 2 for players below National Rating 1400. In the past few editions, the prize fund for this event was around RM 1,800 for two categories combined.

How is this edition different from previous edition?
1. CAS has decided to raise the prize fund to RM 2,980/= ( more than 50% increment).

2. In addition, CAS has decided to offer equal prize fund for both categories. Over the years, CAS receives strong support from players in Category 2, so we felt that it is time that we should be rewarding players in this group.

3. CAS is going to introduce more prizes for the Girls aka the Best Female Category.

4. CAS offers more cash prize for lower positions to encourage more participation

5. The event is going to be played over 7 rounds as opposed to 6 rounds previously.

We hope that with the improvise structure, we will get a stronger support platform from the chess community to drive our events to new heights.

24th Selangor Juniors Open on 3rd March 2013

CAS is pleased to inform that we are going to continue with the sequel of Selangor Juniors on coming Sunday for Age-Group Under-8, Under-12 and Under-16 @ DAT Chess Connections, 4th floor, Wilayah Complex, KL.

For Age-Group of Under 12 and Under-16, there will be 15 prizes each with the Champion receiving RM 200, 1st Runner-Up receiving RM 150, 2nd Runner-Up gets RM 100, while 3rd and 4th Runner-Up gets RM 50. All top 15 finishers will be receiving a Medal and Certificate of Achievement. 

As for the Special Age-Group of Under-8, the top 15 finishers will be receiving a Medal and Certificate of Achievement. This is the first year CAS is creating this younger age-group category for talent scouting purposes.
