42nd Selangor Open: Final round

IM Rolando has take a full point lead into the final round when his nearest rival IM Mas lost to Efren of Philippines.

Now, Efren will try to stop IM Rolando. It is a very interesting finish if Efren can create another spectacular upset. Efren could be the new Champion based on 1st tie break direct encounter, that is provided FM Yeoh didnt win the final round against Johor Tan Kok Liang. Else, all three will have same points. Rolando has a slim edge of half point lead over Yeoh in 2nd tie break.

42nd Selangor Open: Last Day

After a gruelling 7 rounds battle, defending champion IM Nolte, Rolando has taken a half point lead over his nearest rival IM Mas. Bearing upset, Rolando may seal the title if he beats his compatriot Senador in this round. He had played IM Mas and FM Yeoh already.

Meanwhile, IM Jimmy from Selangor ( a 8-time winner who won his first back in 1980) has staged a remarkable comeback after dropping 1.5pts in his first 3 games and currently playing on Board 4 against the most impressive junior player in this edition. A win in this round may see him playing Rolando in the next and final round. If it happens, this mouth watering clash will be the highlight of the tournament. Only he can stop Rolando from winning the title for the 3rd time in 4 years.

In Round 2, there is a few upsets on top boards. IM Jimmy secures a draw against up-and-coming Muhd Aziz Farhan in a pawn down position. Efren too drop half a point against Yee Jian Yang. While, NM Yeoh Chin Seng lost his game against Amir Ghaazi.
