CAS wishes to thank all parents / teachers/ coaches who have registered children for this event. The number of entries have exceeded CAS target and venue capacity. This edition will be creating a new record of entries for the Selangor Juniors, perhaps it may even surpass CAS all time record of 187 pax 1-day BPM Allegro event that took placed at MidValley in early 2000's.
We will announce the list of participants on this Sunday. Children must report to the venue BEFORE 8.30AM on 30th March for payment purpose. The payment counter will be open from 7.45AM on that day. If you have difficulty in arriving on time, please send an email to selangorchess@gmail.com before 25th March for other mode of payment. Player will not be paired for Round 1 if payment is not received by 8.30AM on 30th March.

R.I.P Mr Laurence How, former Hon. Secretary of CAS
Mr. Laurence How (23rd Oct 1947 - 15th Mar 2014) was one of the founders of Chess Association of Selangor backed in 1974. He held the position as Hon. Secretary from day 1 of the Association until 1984 when he passed the baton to the late Mrs. Jackie Wong. Then, he moves on to become the Hon. Secretary of MCF before he quits chess to set up MUFC in 1992.
Without his 10 years of contributions in CAS and able to identify Mrs. Jackie Wong as his successor to replace him in the Hon. Secretary post who in turn have contributed 16 years of her life to the post. In 1996, Mrs. Wong too had identified Mr. Lim Tse Pin as her successor and passed over the baton to him in 2000. Mr. Lim too has served at the post for 14 years since then. Without the dedication from three of them, CAS may not have lasted until today.
Today, Mr. Lim on behalf of CAS and MCF, had attended his funeral that took placed at Nirwana Shah Alam. Mr. Lim alongside with Mr. Peter Long (life member of CAS) and Mr. Hamid Majid (former Hon. Secretary of MCF who happened to be the successor to Laurence in MCF when he quits chess) had met up at Laurence's House at 9.15am this morning to pay their last respect to him. His coffin departed from his house in Taman Megah, PJ at 10.15am. Both Mr. Lim and Peter had joined the group of Lawrence's relatives and MUFC members to the cremation site @ Nirwana Shah Alam.

25th Selangor Juniors Open on 30th March 2014
CAS will kick-start the year with the 25th edition of Selangor Juniors on 30th March. This is the last National-rated event before next rating release to be used at NAG 2014. This event is very important to players (I) who would like to go to ASEAN+ Chess Championship but yet to fulfil minimum rating ceiling set by MCF; (II) who don't have a chance to play in any national rated event to have their rating changes in order to reflect their current chess playing skill for a better seeding @ NAG; (III) who don't even have a National Rating.
The event will be divided into 3 categories i.e. Under-08, Under-12 and Under-16. The venue for the event: 2nd Floor, Wilayah Complex, KL. It is a make-shift venue that will be refurbished for the upcoming National Closed Chess Championship from 12th to 16th March.
There will be 15 prizes to be won by players in EACH CATEGORY. In addition, 4 players from the same school contesting in a same category can vie for Best Schools prize as well. All-in-all, there may be up to 57 prize winners in this event.
Due to limitation in venue space, CAS hopes players can pre-register early to avoid disappointment.

National Closed 2014 - Selection Result for Selangor Official Representatives + Merit Players
As at 3rd March (1pm), CAS has received Four applications for Men Category and One application for Women Category for Official Representation Slots.
The Men List as listed below:
1. Razali Hamzah (NR1650)
2. Low Jun Jian (NR1721)
3. Sumant Subramaniam (NR 2051)
4. Jax Tham (NR1783)
So, Selangor Men Official representatives are: Sumant and Jax. CAS will pay for their entry fees. While, Razali Hamzah and Jun Jian will be Selangor Extra Players. An email was sent to these players for further instruction on registration process. Please check email.
The Women List as listed below:-
1. Nur Faiqah Aminuddin (NR 1429)
Hence, Faiqah will be Selangor Official Representative. An email was sent to her for further instruction on registration process. Please check email.
In addition, As at 2nd March12.30am, CAS has received Two applications for Women Category under Merit Players Option

2. Puteri Rifqah Azhar (NR1820)

National Closed 2014 - Selection Result for Selangor Representatives Under Wild Card Option
As at 2nd March (12.30am), CAS has received Four applications for Men Category and Zero application for Women Category.
The Men List as listed below:

So, Selangor Men representatives under Wild Card option are: Fikri and Faqih.

National Closed 2014 - Selection for Selangor Representatives [Please write in]
The National Closed is scheduled from 12th March to 16th March 2014.
Each State is allowed to send 2 Official Players (fulfilling min national rating /FIDE rating criteria) and 2 Wild Card Players (need not fulfil rating criteria) which is treated as Extra State Player for both Men and Women Category. Each State can also send as many Extra State players as long as they fulfil the rating criteria.
The criteria for Official Player and Extra State Players (except Wild Card Player) as follows:-
Men Qualification : A
minimum rating level of either NR 1650 OR FIDE 1800
Women Qualification : A minimum rating level of either NR 1400 OR FIDE
1550
CAS would like to find 2 highest rated players to represent Selangor as Official Player for both Men and Women Category. CAS will pay the Entry Fees for all Official Players. Please email to selangorchess@gmail.com with (Name and H/p Number, Will you pay for your own entre fee as Extra State Player i.e. RM150 each if you are not among the top two highest rated players) by 3rd March 12noon for selection purpose.
As for the Wild Card Slots, CAS will award the 2 Men and 2 Women to the highest rated players (who did not fulfil National Rating Jan release or FIDE Rating March release minimum rating set by MCF). Please email to selangorchess@gmail.com with (Name and H/p Number) by 1st March for selection purpose. The players who are shortlisted must pay their own entry fee i.e. RM150 each by 3rd March into CAS Bank account.
While, Selangor Players who are qualified under MCF MERIT PERFORMANCES must write-in to CAS by 1st March if you want CAS to pay for your Entry Fees and submit your name to the Organiser.
MCF Merit Performances Criteria:-
1. Top 10 Men and Women in NR January 2014 List.
2. All previous National Masters(NM) and
National Women Masters (NWM)
3. National Junior Champions
Boy and Girl (U-20) 2013
4. MSSM Individual U-18 Boy
Champion and Girl U-18 Champion 2013
5. SUKIPT Champion 2014
