Malaysian Chess Championship 2016: Team SELANGOR

This event is currently ongoing until tomorrow at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Updated 20/3, 3pm:
Team SELANGOR Men has amazed 25.5 points to clinch Men Team title. While, the Women had finished the event with 23.5 points to tie on same point with Kuala Lumpur but lost on tie-break to finish as Silver medalist.

With this result, Selangor  has equalled last year performance with 3 Golds + 1 Silver.

Congratulations to all players who have represented Team SELANGOR.

After 8 Rounds:
FM Yeoh Li Tian and WCM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham have defended the Men and Women title respectively that they won last year with 1 round to spare. A big congratulation on their superb performance and two individual gold medals for Team SELANGOR.

Team SELANGOR Men has accumulated a total of 24 points from the best 4 players results with 1 round to go. Team Penang is Second with 21.5 points followed by Kuala Lumpur and Sabah tied for Third with 21 points. In the last round, Team SELANGOR just need another 2 points from 4 players to take an unassailable lead for the Team Title.

Team SELANGOR Women has accumulated a total of 22 points from the best 4 players results with 1 round to go. Team Kuala Lumpur is Second with 20.5 points. In the last round, Team SELANGOR just need another 3 points from 4 players to take an unassailable lead for the Team Title.

After 7 Rounds:
Team SELANGOR Men has produced an incredible performance after 7 rounds of competition with an accumulated score of 22 points from best 4 players result. This score is 2.5 points ahead of nearest rival PENANG (who just been crowned as Best State in NAG 2016 few days ago).

Team SELANGOR Women has put up a sterling performance after 7 rounds with 20.5 points accumulated which represents a 3.5 points lead  over nearest rival Defending Champion Kuala Lumpur.

Both teams are on path to achieve a rare double for SELANGOR. With here, CAS wishes all of them continue with their fine run in the remaining 2 rounds.

To encourage more participation from school children, the Registration with payment for School (min 4 pax) by 13th April, shall be entitled to Early Bird Rebate(This offer had EXPIRED!) 


CAS will be organizing the Oldest Chess Tournament in the country from 28th April to 2nd May. This year we will be celebrating 43 continuous years of our event that has a very colorful history since its first inception in 1974.

This year prize fund has doubled to RM30,600/=. This event will be divided into 2 Categories i.e. an Open Section and a Challenger Section. CAS last organized the Challenger Section was during the 22nd edition in the year 1995.

This 9-round Open Section with the time control 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment from move 1 will have a prize fund of RM 25,000/= that comprises of RM 21,000/= in cash for the Top 20 winners (Champion RM 6,000), RM 3,000/= in cash awaiting 15 winners in Special Prizes, and 15 Trophies for the Best Schools / IPT in Malaysia. This Open section is open to all. Free entry shall be given to any WGM/IM/GM and past Selangor Open Champions who sign-up. On top of that, the first 6 Grandmasters (GM) who confirm their participation shall be provided with 5 nights accommodation @ Cititel Hotel (on twin-sharing basis).

While, the Challenger Section with the same number of rounds and time control will share the remaining prize fund of RM 5,600/= i.e. RM 3,900/= in cash for Top 10 winners, RM 1,000/= in cash awaiting 9 top winners from 3 National Rating Ceiling categories and 3 best Ladies, and 15 Trophies for Best Primary Schools in Malaysia. This event is open to participant with FIDE Standard Elo below 1900 rating (April 2016 release). For those who didn't have FIDE Standard Elo Rating, the participant must have MCF National Rating below 1750 (April 2016 release) in order to take part.  Click here for a copy of National Rating Apr 2016 list. [Take note: Foreigner (13 y.o. and above) who does not possess both FIDE Elo Rating and MCF National Rating can't take part in the Challenger Section.] 

The venue for this event is at Grand Ballroom, 5th floor, Cititel Mid Valley Hotel, KL. Any outstation participants who need accommodation at Cititel Hotel, please alias with En. Malaysian who is born / residing / studying / working in Selangor enjoys a lower entrance fee privilege. While, OKU participant who take part in the Open Section is entitled to lowest rate in entrance fee.

43rd Selangor Open (28th April to 2nd May)

CAS wishes to announce that this year Selangor Open will be held at Cititel Hotel, Mid Valley from 28th April to 2nd May. There is a great possibility that the Challenger Section (create specially for juniors) will be reintroduced after a lapse of 20 years.

Breaking news!

This year Selangor Open will carry a prize fund of RM25,000 (RM24,000 in cash + 3 Best Schools prizes + 25 individual medals). This event is open to all. The first 6 Grandmasters who register in this event shall be given 5 nights free accommodation on twin sharing basis at Cititel Hotel. Entry is free for all WGM, IM and GM.

 A separate category is created for player who possesses elo rating up to 1899 or MCF National Rating up to 1749. A prize fund of RM 5,600 (RM 4,900 in cash + 3 Best School prizes + 22 Individual medals).

2nd SKBJ Chess Championship 2016 (National level) on 26/3 and 27/3


CAS is pleased to inform that SK Bukit Jelutong with the blessing and approval from the Ministry of Education will be organizing its second Age Group Chess Championship 2016 on 26th and 27th March 2016.

CAS has endorsed this event to become a National-rated event and has a successful application to MCF. Here, CAS would like to request all top schools in Chess from Selangor to send your players to support this event. This event which consists of Under-9 and Under-12 will be played over 8 rounds using Swiss pairing system with a time control of 25 minutes per game per player played to the finish.
