39th Selangor Open [1st May to 6th May 2012]

CAS is pleased to announce that Selangor Open, a FIDE-rated and National-rated event, will be held from 1st May to 6th May 2012. There is a change in the schedule format if compares with previous years. It is to accomodate more working adults and school going children to take part in this event.

The first 2 rounds will be played on 1st May (Labour Day). Rd 1 @ 2PM followed by Rd 2 @ 7PM. As for Rd 3 to Rd 5, it will start at 7PM on each following day. Then, Rd 6 and Rd 7 on 5th May (Saturday) followed by Rd 8 & Rd 9 on Sunday.

CAS hopes this schedule will be able to attract more people from chess community to support this self-funded event (as of today). The main prize for this event has been extended to top 15 (instead of top 10 winners). Also, CAS is offering top 3 teams (Gold medals, Silver medals and Bronze medals) for IPT/School category. Each IPT/School must send 4 players to be eligible for the prizes.

Entries with payment receives by 23rd April shall entitled to RM 30 discount. In addition, a further 20% discount shall be given to IPT/Schools that send at least 4 players.

CAS hopes all chess bloggers / coaches / academies / associations in Malaysia can lend the support to advertise this Oldest Chess Event in Malaysia in chess blogs and share with as many chess friends as possible to make this event a success.

This is a Nationally-rated event. This is an event specially created for you if you are interested in obtaining your first national rating (not many events are nationally-rated in a year) or see how much you have improved in playing strength since the last rating released in April 2010.

Rd 4 saw several interesting results being produced. IM Jimmy Liew lost to WCM Nur Nabila on Table 2, newly elected Vice-president of CAS NM Yeoh Chin Seng drew with WFM Nur Najiha on Table 3. A good performance for Azman's children.

MSSWP Chief Trainer Shamsuddin defeated NJM Muhd Tariq on Table 7. Yeoh Li Tian was outplayed by Jimmy in Rd3.

For those who wish to be part of the oldest chess tournament in Malaysia but yet to pre-register yourself for the event.

Don't worry, you may do a walk-in registration tomorrow at the tournament venue (DATCC @ 4th floor, Wilayah Complex, KL) between 12noon and 1.30pm. A surcharge of RM 20 (as per advertised) will be imposed as late fee on top of the entrance fee.

CAS Closed on 23 May 2010 [National-rated event]

CAS is organising a Closed event for her members on 23rd May in conjunction with her annual general meeting (AGM) take will take place in the same venue.

At the point of writing, this event is the only rated event sanctioned by MCF for the month of May. So, CAS is calling you to take part in this event if you want to get your maiden National Rating (if you do not have one) or see your rating performance changes to reflect your current strength.

Not many organisers actually submit their event for rating purposes, but CAS is among the few organisers who support the national rating system and do submit all events organised under CAS banner for rating purposes.

For those who yet to join member, you can sign-up to become a member on the tournament day itself and will process your application on the spot. Alternatively, you may want to drop by DATCC, 4th floor, Wilayah Complex on this coming Saturday (1st May) between 10am to 4pm for membership enrollment. By the way, 37th Selangor Open, the oldest chess tournament in Malaysia, is ongoing at the same venue. You can watch some of the Malaysian top players in action.

37th Selangor Open: Pre-registration List

All participants will be given free bottles of mineral water during the tournament. One of the committee member just carry back 120 liters of water from one of the hypermarkets in town. The number of bottles to be made available for consumption will depends on the pre-registration list.

National Closed Championship 2008

The Royal Selangor International Open Chess Tournament 2008 had a good coverage in both the Star newspaper chess column and the local 'Gilachess' chess blog. A big Thank You to both. This should spur CAS and other chess organizers to bring forth quality chess tournaments in the country.On another note the bond between affiliates and parent body should be beyond reproach and envy to enable a viable and meaningful structure.


CAS stopped organizing a selection tournament given the past poor numbers and quality of participations. Moreover selection based on a rapid event would not reflect the players' strength viz-a-viz standard time National Closed. Moreover the stronger players have already been given direct entry while others need to only pay nominal fee. However Members who wish to participate through CAS can e-mail name/particulars and follow-up before the closing date for consideration.

Royal Selangor International Open Chess Tournament 2008 - The Invitation

The Chess Association of Selangor invites local and international chess players to participate in the 35th Selangor Open, the longest running chess tournament in Malaysia. Due to space constraint we may have to just accomodate up to 80 players only.Please preregister at our email address or submit your application to our sponsor Royal Selangor, Petaling Jaya office.

Persatuan Catur Selangor menjemput pemain catur tempatan dan luar negara mengambil bahagian di Catur Terbuka Selangor ke35, pertandingan catur bertaraf antarabangsa paling lama diadakan di Malaysia hingga kini. Oleh kerana tempat yang terhad kepada tidak melebehi 80 peserta diharap membuat pendaftaran awal melalui email atau menghantar terus borang penyertaan kepada penganjur, Royal Selangor cawangan Petaling Jaya.

Royal Selangor International Open Chess Tournament 2008 - Brief update

The Champion for this 9-round FIDE rated event will receive RM 2,200 cash plus Royal Selangor Pewterware. The event also known as The 35th Selangor International Open Chess Tournament commences: 30th April to 4th May 2008 @ Royal Selangor HQ, Setapak Jaya, Kuala Lumpur. (Note: Round 1 is scheduled to start at 1800 hrs)

Entrance Fee for CAS Members >> RM 70, while Others >> RM 110.
