38th Selangor Open 2011 - Final Results

FM Nicholas Chan won the event to achieve his third consecutive win in this Tournament. It was a hard fought competition where the winners  could only be determined  until the last Round. Nicholas too pipped Ian Udani who shared the same score of 7 1/2 points through a tie-break.

12th CAS - OCTAGON Second Quarter Allegro on 13th June 2010 (Sunday)

(Winners of the Tournament together with the recently elected CAS officials namely CAS President En Shafruddin (seated at centre ), VP En Mok Tze Meng (to his right), IA Lim Tse Pin (far right), and two  newly elected VP En Yeoh Chin Seng ( to his left ) and Council member En Lim Chong (far left))





GM Ziaur Rahman made a grand debut in the above CAS-Octagon  Second Quarter Allegro 2010 scoring full points this evening. In 2nd place was Cheah Cheok Fung with 5 1/2 points on better tie-break over two other players namely Chan Sheng Yip and Fariz Shafruddin. Regular campaigner Ian Udani had to settle for 5th position when he lost the final round to the GM.

CAS Closed 2010: Final Ranking

FM Nicholas Chan (in the centre) again stamped his superiority after winning in the recent Selangor Open, to sweep with a clean score in the CAS Closed tournament this afternoon. Kamaluddin Yusof with 5 points ( on his right) took the 2nd spot while Muhd Nabil ( to his left ) with 4 1/2 points whom he shared with two other players ( newly elected Vice President Yeoh Chin Seng and Perak player Mark Siew ) was 3rd .

11th CAS-Octagon First Quarter Allegro Championship 2009 - The Results

CAS first tournament for the year started with a bang with an commendable 100 participants. Leading the field was our country's top player IM Mas Hafizulhelmi (NR 2332).He is currently gunning for his GM title in the coming months which will augur well for Malaysian chess

The tournament hence attracted a strong field of players and this would benefit the up-and-coming youngsters to measure or improve their strength.

The tournament was slightly delayed due to the unforeseen breakdown of the air-conditioning system. A minor dispute over a touch-move rule was satisfactorily resolved and no untoward incident ocurred during the tournament. Chief Arbiter was IA Lim Tse Pin (seen below with the computer)

Main Prize Winners

Champion - Ian Udani. Despite an earlier draw with Fariz Shafruddin and in the final round with Sumant Subraniam the six point lead was sufficient to earn him the top spot.












2nd - Sumant Subramaniam, a draw in the final round giving him 6 points earned him the second position















3rd - Fariz Shafruddin who topped the 5 1/2 pointers with six other winners. The draw with Zambri in the final round cost him the opportunity to grab the top position.

In 6th Position was Gerald Soh, followed by Muhd Nabil in 7th position, Mohd Zambri 8th, Norazman Ismail 9th and Ahmad Fadzil Nayan (Engineering student and golden boy of UIA) who managed to squeeze into the 10th spot with 5 points.

In Closing

The President and Hon Secretary called on the members to come forward to contribute towards the continued success of the Association. It is important to set an orderly succession plan, as well as to provide fresh ideas and efforts for the betterment of chess in the country

Chess has picked up momentum but needs an integrated approach and unity amongst the chess fraternity to progress and in seeking recognition from the public.

10th CAS-Octagon 4th Quarter Allegro 2008 - Results

The final leg of the CAS-Octagon Allegro for the year registered a strong pool of 76 players. The newly refurbished TheChessCentre hall on 4th Floor of Kompleks Wilayah adequately fulfilled the required playing space. IA Hamid Majid who is manning the place promised to further upgrade the area to include air-conditioning system. CAS President Shafruddin reiterated the Association completed the task it set out to do for the year and hoped his Committee would receive the continued support from the sponsors, members and chess players. Ideas and volunteers were welcome so as to bring chess to the next higher level in Selangor and the country in general. Hon Secretary IA Lim Tse Pin confirmed the 11th series of the CAS-Octagon First Quarter Allegro 2009 would start off at the same premises on 18th January 2009. Given the support from the sponsor Octagon Consolidated Berhad and favourable response from the players the prize monies would be further increased. Finally to all Muslims 'Selamat Hari Raya Eidil Adha'


Nicholas Chan (in black shirt) blazed his way with a straight 7 points win. He earlier stopped Ian Udani in the 6th Round who had to settle for a second place. Committee Member/Hon Treasurer Fariz Shafruddin with 6 points was placed 3rd.
