NAG 2014: Event Registration Procedure for Selangorians

The PMB National Age-Group Chess Championships 2014 will be held at UNITEN Bangi from 25th (Friday) to 27th Apr (Sunday). Every participant shall be given a copy of Certificate of Participation by MCF. The child can bring it back to the school for leave purposes.

Children (Malaysians only) who are EITHER Born OR Living OR Schooling in Selangor can register via the Association to enjoy a cheaper entry fee of RM50 as opposed to RM70.

1. Fill-up the NAG Entry Form and Scan It

3. [Updated on 9th April, 6pm] Due to unforeseen circumstances, please don't bank-in into CAS Standard Chartered Acc. 794-1-4102906-2 (Persatuan Catur Selangor) with immediate effect until  further notice. To facilitate the payment process, you may bank RM50/pax into Maybank Acc: 112223186563 (Lim Tse Pin). Mr Lim will transfer your payment into MCF account. Scan the bank-in Slip / Capture a screenshot if performs via Online Banking [Take note: For bulk registration, payment for all children must be done in ONE TRANSACTION for easy reference]. Extended Last payment date: 13TH APRIL 2014 (SUNDAY)

4. Email all three documents to selangorchess@gmail.com latest by 13TH APRIL 2014 (SUNDAY)

CAS will not entertain any NAG registration after 13TH APRIL 2014.

25th Selangor Juniors Open on 30th March 2014: Final Results

This edition saw a record turn-out of 265 players on last Sunday. This is a single most entries ever recorded in CAS 1-day tournament. The collection of payment from players began from 7.45am until 9am. The event started with Rd 1 at 9.30am, played 3 rounds before lunch break, followed by 4 rounds after the break and Rd 7 ended at 7.45pm.

The fight for wins among players were so intense round after round. In some rounds, the actual time spent by players actually had exceeded the schedule time as a result of incremental time use. Giving the numbers, the venue may not be exactly the ideal place to accommodate for nearly 500 pax including parents, coaches, and teachers. Nevertheless, the sportsmanship displayed by players were great with a total of 257 players qualified for rating changes.

Not only the spectators feeling the heat while waiting for their children / students result, the Arbiters have to work round-the-clock to ensure smooth running of the event. In the final round, the FIDE-sanctioned SwissManager pairing program too felt the heat when it refused to generate the final pairing for U16 category of 87 players for unknown technical glitches. The Chief Arbiter IA Lim alongside with IA Hamid have never encounter this problem with these many players. It may occurs if there is only a handful of players with 7 rounds event. They had to perform the pairing manually under time-constraint condition plus there is no pairing card containing player's information of the first six rounds. Both of them put their acts together to pull-off this painstaking task, a skillset that many modern Arbiters may not be well verse / able to perform due to heavily dependent on Computer pairing program.

The Prize-giving started at 8pm with the announcement of Under-8 prizewinners, followed by Under-12 and U-16 prizewinners. The ceremony concluded at 8.30pm. Finally, CAS would like to apologize for the delay.

Klang Parade Chess Championship 2014 [A National-rated event]

This year Klang Parade in collaboration with CAS will have their event upgraded to a National-rated event. This event shall use the new National Rating April 2014 release, if the rating can be released ahead of schedule than the projected release date on 15th April. Please take note that the rating changes for this event will be reflected in NR July 2014 release only (not April 2014).  

On 5th April, there is an Age-Group event for Under-12 and Under-18 players. While, the Open category shall be played on the following day. All chess players who wish to join the event, please send an sms with your name and category (U12 / U18 / Open) to Mr. Hamid Majid (019-315 8098) to book a seat early to avoid disappointment due to limited seats on the venue. Payment can be made on event day.

Alternatively, players who are playing in 25th Selangor Juniors may sign-up and make payment on 30th March to Mr. Hamid or CAS Officials. Click here to download the entry form.

41st Selangor Open [FIDE-rated] (30th Apr - 4th May): Prospectus

CAS would like to announce the venue for this event @ DAT Chess Centre, 2nd floor, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur. We are having difficulty in sourcing for an alternative venue since Jan 2014 when the regular chess place at 4th floor of this complex was forced to shut down when the leasing term expired.

It was very fortunate that the Complex is renting a makeshift venue on the 2nd floor for the use of National Closed, Selangor Juniors Open and upcoming Selangor Open. Without this arrangement, there is no venue for chess in Klang Valley.

There will be 16 Individual Prizes (Top 15 and Best Girl) and 3 Team Prizes (Best School) to be won in this category. Hence, as many as 28 children will bring back a prize at the end of the day.

No more pre-payment shall be accepted. For those who not yet make payment, you must arrive at the venue between 7.45am and 8.30am.

While those who already made payment, you just need to be at the venue at 8.45AM.
