44th Selangor Open Chess Tournament 2017 - Final Results

The 44th Selangor Open Chess Tournament 2017 which kicked off on 27th April 2017 was successfully concluded 5 days later on 1st May 2017. The Tournament attracted over 150 players from The Phillipines, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, New Zealand, India, Vietnam, and Singapore. Our Malaysian players included IM Jimmy Liew, FM Wong Yinn Long, WFM Nur Najiha Azman Hisham and WFM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham.

44th Selangor Open (27/4 - 1/5): Prospectus


CAS will be organizing the Oldest Chess Tournament in the country from 27th April to 1st May. This year we will be celebrating 44 continuous years of our event that has a very colorful history since its first inception in 1974.  This event will be divided into 2 Categories i.e. an Open Section and a Challenger Section.

This 9-round Open Section with the time control 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment from move 1 that comprises of RM 21,000/= in cash for the Top 20 winners (Champion RM 6,000), RM 3,000/= in cash awaiting 15 winners in Special Prizes, and 15 Trophies for the Best Schools / IPT in Malaysia. This Open section is open to all.

Free entry shall be given to any WIM/WGM/IM/GM and past Selangor Open Champions who sign-up. On top of that, the first 4 Grandmasters (GM) who confirm their participation shall be provided with 5 nights accommodation @ Cititel Hotel (on twin-sharing basis).

While, the Challenger Section with the same number of rounds and time control with RM 3,900/= in cash for Top 10 winners, RM 1,000/= in cash awaiting 9 top winners from 3 National Rating Ceiling categories and 3 best Ladies, and 15 Trophies for Best Primary Schools in Malaysia.

This Challenger section is open to participant with FIDE Standard Elo below 1900 rating (April 2017 release). For those who didn't have FIDE Standard Elo Rating, the participant must have MCF National Rating below 1750 (April 2017 release) in order to take part. 
[Take note: Foreigner (13 y.o. and above) who does not possess either FIDE Elo Rating or MCF National Rating can't take part in the Challenger Section. Mykid and Mykad holders are exempted from this clause.] 

The venue for this event is at Grand Ballroom, 5th floor, Cititel Mid Valley Hotel, KL. Any outstation participants who need accommodation at Cititel Hotel, please alias with En. Hamid Majid (aham@pc.jaring.asia) at special rate (One night twin sharing with breakfast @ RM281 nett). Alternatively, you can book the room via one of the online web portals.

CAS has appointed DAT Chess Centre as Event Manager for this event. DAT Chess Centre will be handling the Registration and Payment processes. All payments shall be paid into DAT Chess Centre Maybank account: 5145-9822-0396.

Rebate shall be given to players who register with payment for OPEN section, both Individual and (4 and above from the same school) School-going Children for OPEN section, and (4 and above from the same school) School-going Children for CHALLENGER section By 9th April 2017 (Sunday). While, OKU participants who take part in the both OPEN and CHALLENGER Sections are entitled to lowest bracket rate in Individual entrance fee of respective category based on the timeline of registration.

Application Results for Selangor Representatives to Malaysian Chess Championships 2017

The Malaysian Chess Championship is scheduled from 23rd March to 27th March 2017 at Yayasan Al Khathiri Multi Purpose Hall, Kubang Kerian, Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

After 11day of advertising, there are 4 applications for Men and 3 applications for Women. In order to fulfil the state criteria, the applicant must fulfil at least one of the followings:- 
(I) Born in the state, (II) Residing in the state, (III) Working / Studying in the state

Upon fulfilling the criteria listed above and agree to represent the state, the player will sign the Player's Registration Form which means the Player can only represent on the agreed state for the Calendar Year. This means the player cannot represent other state in MCF national-level rated events e.g. Merdeka Team Championship, Inter-State Team Championship, MSSM and etc in the same Calendar Year. This is a MCF requirement since 2013 to avoid other state from buying players by offering more incentives or prevent players from state-hopping.  

CAS wishes to announce the following candidates are chosen to represent Selangor in the upcoming Malaysian Chess Championship 2017. These players shall be given 5 nights accommodation at the official hotel, Al Khathiri Hotel plus full board.

As for the unsuccessful applicants, we thank all of you for the interest in wanting to represent Selangor as Official players. As of today, Selangor will have another 2 players in Men and 1 player in Women category who have registered as State Extra Players.

The Malaysian Chess Championship 2017 - Selection for Selangor Representatives [Please write in]


The Malaysian Chess Championship is scheduled from 23rd March to 27th March 2017 at Yayasan Al Khathiri Multi Purpose Hall, Kubang Kerian, Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Each State is allowed to send 2 Official Players (fulfilling min national rating /FIDE rating criteria) and 4 Wild Card Players (need not fulfil rating criteria) which is treated as Extra State Player for both Men and Women Category. Each State can also send as many Extra State players as long as they fulfil the rating criteria.
 
The criteria for Official Player and Extra State Players (except Wild Card Player) as follows:-
Men Qualification       : A minimum rating level of either NR 1650 OR FIDE 1800
Women Qualification : A minimum rating level of either NR 1400 OR FIDE 1550

CAS will extend invitation to (2 Men and 2 Women) highest national-rated players who write-in to represent Selangor as Official Player for both Men and Women Category. CAS will pay the Registration fee, and provide 5 nights Accommodation on twin-sharing basis with full board to all Official Players. The Official Player needs to pay their own flight ticket or bus ticket. Please write-in to selangorchess@gmail.com with (Name and H/p Number) by 5th March (Sunday) for selection purposes. The result of the selection will be published on this website on 7th March. The selected players must provide a copy of flight ticket / bus ticket itinerary to CAS by 12th March (Sunday).
 
For the Wild Card Slots, CAS awards the slots (4 Men and 4 Women) to the highest national-rated players (who did not fulfil National Rating Jan 2017 release or FIDE Rating Feb 2017 release minimum rating set by MCF). Please email to selangorchess@gmail.com with (Name and H/p Number) by 5th March (Sunday) for selection purposes. The result of the selection will be published on this website on 7th March. The selected players must pay the registration fee i.e. RM150 each to CAS by 10th March (Friday) and make own arrangement to purchase the flight ticket / bus ticket and accommodation.

For any other player who has qualified the rating criteria and would like to join, please write-in to CAS (selangorchess@gmail.com) by 5th March (Sunday). The player must pay the registration fee i.e. RM150 to CAS by 10th March (Friday) and make own arrangement to purchase the flight ticket / bus ticket and accommodation. (Take note that the Registration fee for Direct registration with MCF without going through State Association is RM250.)
 
Lastly, Selangor Players who have qualified under MCF MERIT PERFORMANCES must write-in to CAS (selangorchess@gmail.com) by 5th March (Sunday) for us to place you among the Official Players Selection List. The result of the selection will be published on this website on 7th March. If you aren't chosen as the Official Representative but still want to take part in this Championship, CAS will be glad to pay for your registration fee. You need make own arrangement to book hotel and purchase the flight ticket. You must provide a copy of flight ticket / bus ticket itinerary to CAS by 12th March (Sunday).
